Party Perfect! 06-24-09 |
This weeks project is Party Perfect! We will be
creating some fun party extras along with going over some basics
on hooping materials that are next to impossible to hoop! I hope
you enjoy this fun week! The Cosmopolitan design is available for a SHORT time (06-27-09) through our Special buy June Summer Sizzlin CD!

This placemat was next to impossible to hoop correctly. It is very thick and has a very rough texture. So instead of hooping it the standard way we used a basting stitch to get a great stitch out. |
First I hooped only my stabilizer (med cutaway). Then I sprayed KK2000 heavily on my hooped piece of stabilizer. Place your material on top the stabilizer where you want it. CAREFULLY place on the machine and stitch your basting stitch FIRST! |
When your basting stitch is in place go ahead and stitch your design. |
See how it turns out BEAUTIFUL. Now this is only when you cannot normally hoop your item. I do not recommend this unless it is basically your only option. Hoops where created to stabilize your designs. |

Now we are doing drink Flip Flops! These are SO CUTE! |
Choose your fabric top, felt (or foam) bottom and matching ribbon about 11" long. |
Hoop a heavy tearaway (yes I said TEARAWAY!) LOL Stitch your placement stitch. I do mine in the color carmine. You do not actually have to use that color. Put your matching color on and just leave it for this project:-) |
Put your top & bottom fabrics on the hoop. Use some spray adhesive to make sure the bottom is holding on. You can also use a couple pieces of tape to hold your bottom on. |
Make sure you check to make sure your bottom piece is in place when you start stitching. When the tack down is done trim the top and the bottom pieces. Finish your stippling stitch and the satin stitch around the edge. |
Now we will start attaching the ribbon. The first stitch is the toe. It will stitch a small line to show you where to place your ribbon. Fold your ribbon in half to find your center, place it right side up over the stitch. Tape in place and stitch the satin tack down. |
Do the same for each step of the ribbon. You can trim off any excess ribbon when finished. |
Slip your flip flop onto the base of your glass. It will fit a little tight, but it will not slide off and you have a built in coaster for your drinks! |
Next we will be making some fun flags to identify who's drink is who's or to let your guest know what kind of food they are digging into:-) |
For the straw flags you need 2 pieces of matching fabric about 4x4 size.
These are done almost exactly the same way as the flip flop. You just do not have to worry about the ribbon part. Now that your flag is stitched go ahead and tear it from the stabilizer. |
Carefully rip out your holes for your straw to slide through. |
I put the flag through a pencil after I use some Fray Check on the opening. If you put it on a straw the Fray Check will melt the straw. Let it dry several hours before use. |
Use a pen of your choice to add names or you could even embroider a name on before you remove it from the hoop. I find using a pen is easiest though. |
